La Semaine de la Critique unveils the poster of its 60th edition

The poster for the 60th edition of La Semaine de la Critique shows a picture from David Robert Mitchell’s fantasy film, IT FOLLOWS selected in 2014 after screening his first feature film in 2010, THE MYTH OF THE AMERICAN SPEEPOVER.

La Semaine de la Critique - the Cannes parallel selection dedicated to discovering new talents - has been exploring filmmakers’ work from around the world for 60 years. It conveys here both its passion for arthouse films and new kinds of genre films. As it did with filmmakers such as Juan Antonio Bayona (The Orphanage), Jonas Alexander Arby (When Animals Dream) or more recently Julia Ducournau (Raw), Gabriel Abrantes and Daniel Schmidt (Diamantino, 2018 Nespresso Grand Prize) and Just Philippot (The Swarm), La Semaine de la Critique, focused on first and second features from the beginning, is always thrilled to enter these directors’ deliciously radical worlds.

In this scene from the film, captured by the photographer François Fontaine, with the collaboration of Les Bons Faiseurs agency, the characters dash towards their destiny. Genre films are full of parallel worlds that reflect their generation, playful yet unbelievably sharp harbingers of times to come.

The 60th edition of La Semaine de la Critique will be there to welcome you between the 7th and 15th of July at the fully renovated Miramar theatre and is thrilled to see you soon on the Cannes promenade!
