La Semaine de la Critique reveals its 60th anniversary film

For 60 years, La Semaine de la Critique - Cannes’ parallel selection dedicated to discovering new talents - has been revealing filmmakers to audiences from around the world, selecting their first or second feature films. Hafsia Herzi, Jacques Audiard, Leos Carax, Arnaud Desplechin, Justin Kurtzel, Nadav Lapid, Jeff Nichols and François Ozon all started at La Semaine de la Critique.

To celebrate our sixtieth anniversary, we are particularly proud to welcome a young filmmaker whose career is a great honour for us. After presenting her short film Pauline Enslaved (Pauline asservie) for the 2018 competition, Charline Bourgeois-Tacquet took part in the La Semaine de la Critique’s Next Step workshop to write her first feature, Anaïs in Love (Les Amours d’Anaïs).

We are truly delighted to present the world premiere of this exquisite comedy in which the bubly Anaïs Demoustier’s joie de vivre is absolutely infectious as we see her deal with romantic setbacks.

Anaïs is thirty and struggling financially. She’s got a boyfriend she’s not sure she loves anymore. She meets Daniel, who immediately takes a fancy to her. But Daniel lives with Emilie… whom Anaïs also fancies. The story of an ever-changing young woman. And that of a burning desire.

This love triangle is interpreted by Denis Podalydès, Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi and Anaïs Demoustier, who is more sensuous, liberated and vibrant than ever, and whose playful energy is bewitching. An energetic, cheerful film driven by a young woman who lives to the beat of our contemporary drums.
