Région Sud: land of cinema

Région Sud and cinema have always been inextricably linked. From the Lumière brothers' train at La Ciotat to the present day, countless memorable films have been enhanced by our sunshine, our landscapes and our colours.

So, it's no coincidence that every year the world's biggest film festival is held in Cannes. At the heart of the fortnight, Critics’ Week plays a fundamental role. It reveals the talents of tomorrow, highlights different viewpoints and promotes the diversity of the seventh art.

With more than 5000 filming days a year and 8000 direct jobs, the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region is an exceptional breeding ground for creative talent. Productions, training, studios, festivals: it's a whole ecosystem of talented professionals who bring the cinema to life on a daily basis.

With Critics’ Week, we are also celebrating their passion. Thank you to all the teams that organise this not-to-be-missed event, year after year. Long live cinema!
