Oldest among the parallel sections in Cannes and driven by its mission to reveal new Talents by selecting first and second films, La Semaine de la Critique chose to spotlight for its 56th edition the magical and emotional moment when a film crew meets the very first audiences. On this poster designed by the Parisian agency les bons faiseurs and the photographer Alice Khol, the young actress Garance Marillier embraces director Julia Ducournau after the screening of her debut feature, Raw, selected in the competition of the 55th Semaine de la Critique.
“A particle accelerator” according to Jeff Nichols, La Semaine de la Critique is proud to have partaken over the years in the first steps on the international scene of such directors as Andrea Arnold, Jacques Audiard, Leos Carax, Arnaud Desplechin, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Wong Kar-Wai, Ken Loach, David Robert Mitchell, Guillermo del Toro or Justine Triet.
La Semaine de la Critique will be held in Cannes between the 18th and the 26th of May. The Brazilian director Kleber Mendonça Filho, as jury President, will give the Nespresso Grand Prize, the France 4 Visionary Award for features and the Leica Cine Discovery Prize for short films to the winners among the 7 feature films and 10 short films in competition.
