The Institut français is pleased to open a new chapter in its presence in Cannes through a strengthened partnership with the Marché du Film and La Semaine de la Critique. Several activities will be held in collaboration with the Marché du Film’s industry programmes. At the same time, the Institut français will present a rich programme of meetings and panel discussions, including La Fabrique Cinéma workshops, on the beach of La Semaine de la Critique.
The Institut français plays an active role in promoting and showcasing French cinema internationally. Each year, it makes over 100 new French films available to the French cultural network worldwide and its partners, enabling nearly 13,000 screenings in about a hundred countries annually.
The Institut français also supports the emergence of young international filmmakers and fosters connections with French industry professionals. In Cannes, the Institut français runs La Fabrique Cinéma, a programme that selects each year ten first - or second - feature film projects by filmmakers from the Global South and emerging countries, with a goal to connect them with the French film industry during the Festival. In doing so, the Institut français helps identify emerging talent and supports the production and distribution of bold, contemporary works that reflect the dynamism and diversity of new narratives and imaginaries.
Simultaneously, throughout the Cannes Film Festival, the Institut français will present a programme of conferences, panel discussions and workshops aimed at fostering co-productions and collaborations between French and international industries. In this way, the Institut français reaffirms its commitment to intercultural dialogue, pluralism of ideas, and freedom of expression.
“The partnership between the Institut français and the prestigious Semaine de la Critique marks an important and meaningful milestone, given our shared missions to discover and support talent from France and around the world.”
— Eva Nguyen Binh, President of the French Institute
