About Pojkarna (Boys)

By Iris Brey

The tragical impact in Boys arises from the director’s choice to ask questions without giving the respective answers. Isabella Carbonell tackles a taboo subject by drawing the portrait of a young delinquent who has committed the irreparable. The film never shows “the facts”, but rather the idle moments outlining the main character’s and his fellows’ lives. The utmost sobriety of the direction wonderfully captures these young people’s moments of hesitation in their search for points of reference. Staggering.
