About Un jour de mariage (A wedding day)

by Marie-Pauline Mollaret

Westerns drew Elias Belkedar to filmmaking, and indeed, his main character, an exiled runaway crook, is something of a lonesome and weary cowboy, dragging his spleen up and down the streets of Algiers. In this fragmented story which rings like an existential and aimless journey, we are drawn in by a specific colour, an atmosphere, a way to pick up minute details and feelings. The hints that the director gives us paints a fragile and delicately introspective narrative whose subtlety lets us perceive, little by little, how deep and dark it is.
