Film submissions deadline: March 5th 2018

Online applications will end on March 5th 2018!

As the dates for the Cannes Film Festival have been moved forward by a day, the 57th edition of La Semaine de la Critique will take place from Wednesday 9 to Thursday 17 May 2018.

Previous film selections from La Semaine de la Critique have played a major part in bringing to public attention the first films of Julia Ducournau (RAW), Hubert Charuel (BLOODY MILK) or César Augusto Acevedo (LAND AND SHADE | Caméra d’or) and second films from Oliver Laxe (MIMOSASNespresso Grand Prize), Fellipe Gamarano Barbosa(GABRIEL E A MONTANHA | France 4 Visionary Award and the Fondation Gan Prize) or Emmanuel Gras (MAKALANespresso Grand Prize).

When it comes to short films, having their work selected at La Semaine de la Critique gives directors the opportunity to not only show their films in Cannes, but also to take part in December in the Next Step programme. During the week-long workshop, the filmmakers benefit from professional support in the development of their feature films. In 2017, three features that had been backed by Next Step were finished, such as A CIAMBRA (Directors' Fortnight 2017) by Jonas Carpignano, a feature film inspired by the short of the same name that was part of the short film competition at the 2014 Semaine de la Critique.

For this 2018 edition, Artistic Director Charles Tesson, will be working alongside feature and short film selection committees made up of critics and journalists from the French Union of Film Critics. The feature film committee is made up of Danielle Attali, Ava Cahen (Frenchmania), Pierre-Simon Gutman (Avant-scène cinéma), Sandrine Marques (La 7e Obsession) and Nicolas Schaller (L’Obs). The short film committee, once again coordinated by Léo Soesanto (Les Inrockuptibles) is made up of Thomas Fouet (Les Fiches du cinéma), Carole Milleliri (Clap Mag) and Marie-Pauline Mollaret (Écran Noir). The follow-up of the films in production and relations with industry professionals will once again be overseen by Rémi Bonhomme, Program Manager, Hélène Auclaire, Head of the film department and Julie Marnay, in charge of short films (film department).
