Highlight on SAUVAGE, the film that shook the 57th Semaine de la Critique

During the 57th edition, the jury of La Semaine de la Critique, presided by Joachim Trier, bestowed the very first Louis Roederer Foundation Rising Star Award to Félix Maritaud for his performance in SAUVAGE. This award rewards this young actor’s remarkable performance as he "throws himself into Léo's mental and bodily self-punishment with such unguarded conviction that one's concern for character and actor become oddly entwined.” (Variety). Since its debut in Cannes, SAUVAGE, Camille Vidal-Naquet’s first film - lauded by the press - has been selected in several festivals including Jerusalem (Fipresci prize for first film), Wrocław (New Horizons), Santiago (Sanfic) and this year’s Angoulême festival, in competition. SAUVAGE will be released in French cinemas on Wednesday, August 29 (distributed by Pyramide) and was purchased in a dozen countries, including the United-States, Germany, the United Kingdom and Mexico.

Following in Leo’s footsteps, a young man in the pursuit of love, “excellent in many of its formal elements, Sauvage manages to intersperse its very direct realism with flashes that are more sensory in kind, which go some way to softening the blow delivered by the film's rather brutal subject-matter" (Cineuropa)
