Complete renovation of the Miramar theater

The Miramar Theater, the municipal hall, is the venue in which La Semaine de la Critique screens its selection each year, during the Cannes Film festival. This year, in order to offer their audience a better experience, Cannes town hall and La Semaine de la Critique decided to renovate this cultural center for the viewers’ comfort and to adapt to new screening standards and the evolution of digital technology. Thus, the screening room will be fully renovated for the 59thedition of the parallel section  dedicated to new talents, which will be held in Cannes between May 13th to 21st, 2020.

This undertaking was initiated by a philantropist, a friend of La Semaine de la Critique and the Cannes Film Festival. The works started in January 2020 and will allow for a larger number of festival goers withan increased and completely redesigned room capacity: 420 new seats have been laid out according to a seating plan fitted to ensure a better viewing experience. The technical conditions have also been optimized in association with the most qualified professionals in their respective fields: insulation for improved acoustics equipped with DKAUDIO tailor-made speakers and Dolby ATMOS-ready equipment. The new screen is the final touch to the renovation with a microperforated screen for an improved picture quality.

La Semaine de la Critique is delighted with the work provided by 2AVIand their technical experts as it will offer professionals and festival goers one of the best screening experiences on the market as early as the 2020 edition. The renovated Miramar theater will be inaugurated during the opening ceremony of La Semaine de la Critique, on May 13th.

A cultural landmark for exhibits, conferences and performances, the Miramar theater has been property of Cannes town hall since 1952. It hosts all types of performances for local non-profit organisations and international events such as La Semaine de la Critique whose purpose is to discover new film talents on the sidelines of the Cannes Film Festival, and Canneseries, the international series festival.

This renovation will boost our efforts to foster cultural and local creative endeavors.
