1985 Selection

Under the bad influence of his « friends », Victor, a teenager, breaks into a flat where he steals a canary cage. Fleeing the police, he leaves Moscow for Riga where he wants to become a sailor on a fishing ship. At the sta­tion he meets a young girl of his age, Alessia, who has left home after a row with her step­ father. She is waiting for her father who is due to arrive soon. We see the beginning of a relationship which might turn into a love story among characters who haunt the place : a policeman on duty, a postivoman whose boyfriend has left. Other people also happen to be here : an Armenian who smug­gles brandy, a nice-looking train conductor, a mother who has come to meet her daugh­ter,... After long thoughts and discussions, Alessia decides to return home and Victor will confess his crime to the police.
