51ST Semaine de la Critique


Cannes 17-25 May 2012


Article 1 - The 51st edition of La Semaine de la Critique, organized by the Union of French Film Critics, will be held in Cannes, from May 17 to 25, 2012 during the Cannes Film Festival.

Article 2 - Eligibility for full-length films:
• must be the director's director's first or second full-length feature or documentary (theatrically released)

Eligibility for full-length films and short films:
• must have been completed within the 12 months prior to the date of the Festival (between Cannes 2011 and Cannes 2012).

• musn’t have participated in any festival except in its country of origin. 

• musn’t have been diffused on the internet or tv.


Article 3 – Films will be chosen by a panel of film critics, members of Union of French Film Critics. There is a selection committee for features, and a selection committee for short films.

Article 4 - The application fee for FEATURE FILMS is : US$ 160 or 120 Euros. The films won’t be screened until the entry fee has been paid. Submission fees only apply for full-length films, feature or documentary (more than 60’’). Submissions for Short films are free.

All payments must clearly indicate the film’s title or the file n° indicated at the end of the online submission process.

Article 5 – Film registrations will be considered as confirmed when the online submission is done and the entry fee is paid. La Semaine de la Critique reserves the right to refuse any registration that hasn’t followed all the submission steps. Videos sent without any registration will be refused.

Article 6 - Foreign films should be submitted to the selection committee in Paris with English subtitles. French subtitles are not an obligation for the previews.

Article 7 - The deadline for the registrations (shorts and features) : March 30th, 2012
The deadline for reception of short and feature films is : April 6th, 2012

Article 8 Videos have to be specifically sent to La Semaine, independently from the other Cannes sections. Any video sent to the Official Selection or to the Directors’ Fortnight to the Semaine de la Critique’s attention won’t be considered by La Semaine.

All films should be made available to the selection committee before the deadline in one of the following formats : 35 mm, Digibeta, DVD, Blue-Ray, DV-Cam.

If videos are sent through an express mail service, the costs of custom duties and taxes must be paid by the sender.

Prints of foreign films must be sent via "Free delivery" and imported into France under the regulation of "temporary admission".

Article 9 - Shipping and insurance costs as well as customs taxes and customs broker’s fees (to and from Paris and/or Cannes) including "temporary admission" rights are at the expense of the producers. 
The responsibility of La Semaine de la Critique covers the cost of storage and insurance in our screening rooms.

Article 10 - Films selected at La Semaine de la Critique can be screened in Cannes in 35 mm or on Digital DCP.
 Foreign films are to be screened in their original version with French subtitles and english electronic subtitles (under the image). Subtitling is at the producer's expense.

Article 11 - Selected films must not be screened anywhere in Cannes before La Semaine’s official presentation.



Article 12
– La Semaine de la Critique will award the best features and the best shorts in competition. First feature films are competing for the Caméra d’Or prize.

Article 13 - After the Cannes Film Festival, the selected films will be screened in Corsica, Paris, Roma, Beyrouth, Morelia Film Festival (Mexico). For short films only, Sao Paulo (Short Film Festival), Bucharest (Next Film Festival). – The list of reruns can be modified - Right-holders of the film must put copies at disposal for each rerun, until the end of all the reruns. The producer must inform his sales agent, his French distributor and the distributor of the rerun country of these obligatory reruns.

Article 14 – Videos seen in pre-selection will be returned only upon written request, at the expense of the producer. DVDs will be kept by the La Semaine de la Critique until December 31, 2011, after which, they will be destroyed.

Article 15 - La Semaine de la Critique reserves the right to make unilateral decisions about situations not mentioned herein and/or make exceptions to the rules.

Article 16Selected films must use La Semaine de la Critique’s logotype on all their publicity.

Article 17Participation in La Semaine de la Critique implies acceptance of the foregoing rules and regulations.
