About Maalbeek

By Léo Soesanto

Pictures both alienate and liberate. Maalbeek questions and challenges this ambivalence through an original film-therapy session. A survivor of the March 22nd 2016 attacks in Brussels, Sabine searches through the wreckage of her memory, and of the attack itself, something that could make sense of the havoc that day left: her very self. This painful investigation, conveyed through a blend of testimonies and archives, touches us even more as it depicts an out-of-body experience - as one would have, approaching the pearly gates. The screen often dissolves into a pointillist fog within which the core remains: emotions.
