About La Chute (The Fall)

by Marie-Pauline Mollaret

Though Boris Labbé got the inspiration for his meta-film La Chute from Dante, it isn’t an adaptation. With this film, the director pursues his work around loops, metamorphoses and the intertwined processes of degeneration and regeneration. With a blend of hypnotic images drawn with India ink and watercolours and Daniele Ghisi’s spell-binding music, the film calls upon a vast array of artistic creations, from Hieronymus Bosch to Botticelli, to Goya, Bruegel and Henry Darger, thus transcending the myth of the origin of the world to convey the whole History of Mankind.
